Larne were knocked out of the County Antrim Shield on Tuesday night, losing a penalty shootout to Championship side Dundela at Wilgar Park. The Irish Premiership champions saw their defence of the trophy end after a dramatic injury-time equaliser forced spot-kicks.
Mark Randall had put Larne ahead in the second half, but Dundela's Kyle Owens levelled from the penalty spot deep into added time. Randall was the only player to miss in the subsequent shootout, with Dundela converting all five of their attempts to win 5-3. The result sends the Championship club into a semi-final against Ballymena United on 3 November.
The cup exit comes despite Larne's strong league form. They sit third in the Premiership with 19 points from seven games, having won their last five matches. Their most recent result was a 3-0 away win over Crusaders. Attention now turns to a massive league fixture this Friday at home against leaders Coleraine.
