Larne’s Champions League Journey Ends
Northern Ireland’s Larne Football Club suffered a crushing blow to their European ambitions after suffering a 5-0 second leg defeat at Red Star Belgrade. The match, played in the Serbian capital, saw Larne's hopes of progressing in the Champions League come to an abrupt end.
The first leg had already been a tough affair for the Irish side, who were defeated 4-0 by their opponents. However, the second leg proved even more challenging as Red Star Belgrade dominated proceedings from start to finish. Former Stoke and West Ham forward Marko Arnautovic netted twice, while Aleksander Katal, Loizos Loizou, and Osman Bukari also found the back of the net for the Serbian side.
Larne’s Future in European Competitions
With a 9-0 aggregate defeat now on their record, Larne will have to focus on their future in European football. The club has been reassigned to the Europa League third qualifying round as they seek to rebuild and continue their participation in European competitions.
